I miei 10 imperdibili di Buenos Aires/My 10 not to be missed of Buenos Aires

Quando inizia il Festival del Tango di Roma è per me un momento molto gradito, come se una parte di Buenos Aires  si trasferisse per circa 10 giorni nel magnifico Auditorium  (solo 5 giorni quest’anno) Tutti i miei pensieri vanno verso Baires e gli amici che ho avuto la fortuna di conoscere là… mi vengono in mente i luoghi e le occasioni che hanno reso i miei soggiorni o “estadías”  come dicono loro, tanto indimenticabili e che mi fanno sognare il giorno in cui potrò tornare.Camminando per la città guardandovi intorno e a volte in alto già proverete quella sensazione di familiarità che solo a Buenos Aires si ha. In alcuni quartieri vi sembra di stare a Londra poi a Parigi o Madrid e anche New York, è incredibile!Io da bambina sognavo l’Argentina attraverso i film su Evita e volevo toccare il suolo dove aveva vissuto Eva Perón. E alla fine ci arrivai per studiare tango! Dovete sapere che per quanto affascinante, il tango resta un ghetto e chi approda a Baires per ballarlo si perde almeno il 70% del suo mondo vivissimo… La movida porteña è insospettabile e in continua evoluzione.Comincio subito con i miei personalissimi “imperdibili”…Nel quartiere dei teatri esiste un posto orribile, immenso e squallido ma se avrete il coraggio di entrare e sedervi a uno dei tavoli potrete degustare una pizza strepitosa. Non una pizza italiana! Una pizza argentina!  Ma chi ha detto che tutte le pizze del mondo debbano avere lo stesso gusto?

La Pizza da Guerrin, può fare sognare anche lontani dall’Italia…. è una pizza dalla pasta molto alta e con abbondanza scandalosa di quel surrogato di  mozzarella  che ne cade dappertutto mentre la portano al tavolo. Il rischio di macchiarsi è elevato! Ma l’emozione del suo sapore squisito e pieno, senza paragone… Aspetto acidi commenti dai talebani della pizza!Siccome tutti passiamo per San Telmo e a volte ci comportiamo come dei viaggiatori snob vi raccomando La Brigada per mangiare la carne. Un locale indubbiamente turistico ma è buonissimo e il servizio cordiale, gradevole direi. A pranzo dopo il concerto di strada dell’Orquesta El Afronte può diventare un must per chi vuole una buona carne argentina e non solo.Ma se non fosse abbastanza per i più esigenti ho assaggiato la cucina di uno chef della scuola di Ferran Adria!  La Vineria di Gualterio vi trasporta in un viaggio gastronomico dalle mille sorprese, da provare assolutamente per chi non è mai riuscito a prenotare nell’imprenotabile El Bulli! Faccio qui un occhietto ad alcuni che leggendo si riconosceranno…E se trovate qualche amico argentino che vi ospita chiedetegli di cucinarvi la milanesa napolitana… sento di nuovo italiani che sbuffano…. la milanesa napolitana è una fettina panata con pomodoro e formaggio a iosa cotta al forno… niente di che a scriverlo, un’esperienza casareccia divina (parola preferita degli argentini) quando si ha la fortuna di essere ospiti di qualcuno del posto.Se viaggerete in agosto affrontando il freddo di quell’emisfero potrete assistere ai 15 giorni dell’unico festival di tango che coinvolge i più grandi musicisti, cantanti e ballerini. La gente che è il Tango per antonomasia e che per motivi di età magari non viaggia più fuori dal paese… Emozionante anche per chi non ha mai studiato o ballato questa danza tanto speciale. Credetemi non c’è al mondo un altro Festival del Tango con tanto valore artistico e musicale. Decisamente unico!

Ora vorrei rivelare un segreto alle Signore: a Buenos Aires il giovedì sera i signori  hanno la libera uscita. Se saprete scegliere il ristorante nel quartiere giusto… vi consiglio Las Cañitas! Vi troverete circondate da uomini belli, eleganti,simpatici e con tanta voglia di chiacchierare allegramente… decisamente una delle poche occasioni in cui una donna si trova di fronte all’imbarazzo della scelta.Domanda agli argentini: ma le altre sere questi signori dove sono nascosti????

Due grandissimi musei da segnalare, pieni di opere sconosciute a troppi europei in overdose di Renoir, Velazquez e Botticelli… Non vi perdete  il MALBA e nemmeno l’imponente Museo di Bellas Artes! So che a qualcuno sembrerà strano consigliare un museo ma non lo è, visto che molti turisti, presi dalle notti del tango trascurano questi due luoghi della cultura tradizionale.

Per finire vi confesso che sono di quelle che sono andate a fare la fila per toccare la tomba  di Evita alla Recoleta, difficile chiamarlo un “not to be missed” ma lo era per me. E già che c’ero ho visitato il museo dedicato alla Signora.

Ecco a voi  i miei imperdibili per i vostri prossimi giri per la città e naturalmente aspetto i vostri imperdibili con molta curiosità.

 My 10 not to be missed in Buenos Aires

I love when in Rome it is time for the Tango Festival, it seems to me that a part of Buenos Aires moves for 10 days in the great Auditorium (only 5 days this year) All my thoughts go to Baires and to the friends I met there… I can think of places and occasions that made my stays or “estadías” as Argentian say, so unforgettable. I hope to come back very soon.
While walking in the city, looking around and up you will have this feeling of familiarity that only Buenos Aires can provide you. In some areas you will feel to be in London or Paris or Madrid and even New York, it is incredible!
As a child I used to dream about Argentina through all the movies about Evita and I did want to touch the floor where Eva Perón has lived. And finally I could make it for tango lessons! You must know that even if so fascinating, tango remains a kind of ghetto and if you dump in Baires to dance tango you will miss 70% of its very alive world… You will be surprised by the movida porteña, it is unbelievable how it evolves continuously.
Starting with my very personal “not to be missed”…
In the theaters area there is a terrible place, very big and shabby but if you get in and sit at a table you will taste an excellent pizza. Not an Italian pizza! An Argentinian pizza! But who said that all the pizzas of the world should have the same taste?
With the Pizza of Guerrin, you can dream even far from Italy…. it is a pizza made with thick paste and with scandalous abundance of this surrogate of the mozzarella on top. The cheese is so much that before reaching the table part of it will be on the floor. Very high risk to stain yourself! It is worth the risk if you like this delicious and fulfilling taste. Well I am available for any tough comment coming from Italian Pizza Talibans!
We all walk in San Telmo when we visit Buenos Aires but we are sometimes so snob and for this reason I recommend La Brigada for good meat. No doubt it s for tourists but we are tourists! And trust me it is so good and the service is warn. A really pleasant lunch just after the street concert of the Orquesta El Afronte: for me a must for good Argentinian grilled meat and even more.
But if that was not enough I would tell you to pay a visit at La Vineria di Gualterio. The chef is one of Ferran Adria concept. He will take you to a culinary and surprising trip, best occasion for those who could never made it to book at the unbookable El Bulli! Little wink to those that will recognize themselves here…
Now if you are guest at an Argentinian home ask the owner to cook la milanesa napolitana… I can hear Italians snorting…. la milanesa napolitana is a breaded slice with tomato and cheese (always lots of cheese) that you bake… nothing special if you write it, but an amazing experience if you are lucky to be invited at home.
If your trip is in August and you face the cold of this hemisphere you may attend to 15 days of the unique Tango Festival that involves the most important musicians, singers or dansers. The people that are the Tango by definition but too old to travel out of Argentina… So eventful even if you never thought about Tango before. Believe me not other Festival of Tango all around the world with so high artistic level. Definitely unique!
Ok time to reveal a secret to the ladies: on Thursdays evening men have free outdining. So if you choose the right restaurant in the right area… I recommend Las Cañitas! you will be sourrounded by handsome, elegant and smiling men with time for happy conversations… definitely a rare occasion to feel spoiled for choice. So I have a question for Argentinians: please tell us where all those men are hidden on other evenings????
I want to report two big museums, full of unknown masterpieces for Europeans with overdose of Renoir, Velazquez or Botticelli… don’t miss the MALBA or the imposing Fine Arts Museum! It may seem strange to someone recommending museums but it is not, considering that still lots of tourists in Buenos Aires, taken by tango nights neglect these two sacred places of the traditional culture.
Lastly I have to confess that I am among those who queue to touch Evita‘s tomb at la Recoleta, difficult to call it a “not to be missed” but for me it was for sure. And while I was there I visited the interesting museum dedicated to Madame Perón.
